Course Evaluation Information for Faculty using Canvas

I want my students to participate in a course evaluation for my course

For full-time faculty, you are given the option to participate in Rowan Global online course evaluations. You will receive an email from Rowan Online, a division of Rowan Global Learning & Partnerships, asking if you would like to participate in the course evaluation. You MUST return the attached permission form, signed and dated to Rowan Online, prior to the second to last week of your course so that an evaluation can be put in your course.

Adjunct faculty are NOT given the option, they MUST participate in Rowan Global online course evaluations.


How do I view my course evaluation online?

  1. Login to Canvas and navigate to your course.
  2. Click on Evaluation Tools for Instructors in the Course Navigation.
  3. On the Home page, scroll down to the Custom Questions section, and click on the title of the evaluation you want to view (i.e. Mod 5 2015).

  5. The selected survey will appear. 

How do I add custom questions to my course evaluation?

  1. Login to Canvas and navigate to your course.
  2. Click on Evaluation Tools for Instructors in the Course Navigation.
  3. On the Home page, scroll down to the Custom Questions section, and click on the title of the evaluation you want to view (i.e. Mod 5 2015).

  5. On the Edit Survey page, enter in a title and description for your custom question set, and click Save New.

  6. Select a question type to add from the Select Question Type drop-down menu, and edit the options as desired.

  7. When finished, click Save.
  8. Repeat Steps 6 and 7 until you've added all desired custom questions. Note: You can create up to 10 custom questions.
  9. When finished, click Save to make sure to save your new set of questions.
  10. Click on Attach Surveys to Projects.

  11. Click the plus sign in the Add Questions column for your current evaluation (i.e. Mod 5 2015).

  12. Click on the Add Custom Question Survey button.

  13. On the Add Custom Question Surveys page, click on the checkmark in the Select column for the survey you want to add.
  14. Click on Select Courses at the bottom.

  16. Your course should be listed in the table.
  17. Click on the checkbox for your course(s), and click on Add Selected Courses.

I don’t see a course evaluation for my course?

If you do not see an evaluation for your course, you have most likely chosen to not participate in an online course evaluation or you did not return the permission form, signed and dated to Rowan Online, prior to the second to last week of your course.


When is the course evaluation available to my students?

Your course evaluation is available for students to complete for two weeks towards the end of your course. It will be available from Thursday through the following Wednesday. Students have a total of 14 days to fill out the evaluation.


How do I view my course evaluation results?

Course evaluations are available to you 14 days AFTER the official end date of your course evaluation (17 days after the official end date of your course) has passed and you have entered in your final grades. To view the results for your course evaluation, do the following:

  1. Login to Canvas and navigate to your course.
  2. Click on Evaluation Tools for Instructors in the Course Navigation.
  3. Under Project Results, click on the title of the module (i.e. Mod 5 2015 Online Evaluations) you want to view the results for. 
  4. Click on the Download button in the Report column for the results you want to view, and select the file format you want to download (i.e. PDF, Excel, etc).

  5. The selected mode of course evaluation results will appear or download to your computer. 
    • PDF: Shows results without comments
    • PDF + Comments: Shows results with comments, such as answers to any open-ended or custom questions (if included)
    • Raw Data: Shows results as raw data in an Excel spreadsheet
