Note: These instructions are for students—not faculty.

As of Fall 2015, if your course includes voice-over lectures, they will now be available in the Media Gallery tool. Each course has its own Media Gallery, which you can view by clicking on Media Gallery in the Course Navigation Menu on the left-hand side of your course.

How do I view course lectures in my course in Canvas?

  1. To view your course lectures, click on Media Gallery in the Course Navigation Menu.
Click on the Media Gallery tool
  2. Click on the thumbnail or title of a video to view it.

What is the Media Gallery tool?

The Media Gallery tool is an integration of Kaltura’s video tools right into your course in Canvas. Kaltura is a market-leading video platform integrated into our Canvas LMS. It puts all of your course lecture videos in one convenient place.

Benefits of the Media Gallery

  • Enhanced Video Analytics: Instructors can easily access course-specific video analytic reports directly from the LMS. In other words, an instructor can now see exactly which videos each student in his/her course has watched, how many times a student has watched each video, as well as how much of each video a student has watched (i.e. Only 50% of Lecture 1, 100% of Lecture 2, only 67% of Lecture 3, and so on).
  • Optimal Playback: The Kaltura Player provides the optimal playback experience with adaptive bitrate technology.
  • Responsive Design: Automatically adjusts site layout to the screen size and device.
  • Accessibility: Kaltura Player is ADA/508 compliant by default.
  • Robustness and Stability: Kaltura’s state-of-the-art hosting facility has full redundancy, 99.9% uptime SLA, and built-in scalability.

Individual Lecture Links under Modules

Lectures will no longer be individually linked to under Modules. To view your course lectures, click on Media Gallery in the Course Navigation Menu.

Where are lecture PDF files located in my course?

Users can download lectures in PDF file format for printing and note-taking purposes (if included/available in your course) by doing the following:

  1. In your course in Canvas, click on Modules in the Course Navigation.
  2. In the Introduction Module, click on Download Lectures in PDF File Format.
    Click the Download Lectures link
  3. A link to each PDF file will be listed.
  4. Click on the title of a PDF to view and download it.
Click on the title of a PDF to view and download it

What should I do if I'm having trouble viewing lectures?

If you are experiencing issues viewing lectures in the Media Gallery, try using Google Chrome as your web browser. If you continue to experience any issues, please submit an online support ticket via the Rowan Online Portal immediately.
